ACD Reflects on Year's Achievements at End-Of-Year Festive Celebration

The Anti-Corruption Division (ACD) of the High Court on Friday last week held it send-of-year festive celebration at Fairway Hotel, bringing together Judicial Officers and support staff to reflect on the year's achievements and to usher in the Christmas season.

The event provided a rare opportunity for officers and staff of the Division to step away from the courtroom, interact in a relaxed setting and appreciate the collective effort that has sustained the Division’s work throughout the year.

Addressing the gathering, the Head of the Anti-Corruption Division, Justice Michael Elubu, expressed appreciation for his time at ACD since assuming leadership in May, describing the Division as fulfilling and rewarding. He noted that while the Division's mandate is rooted in criminal law, its work is ultimately driven by the people who carry it out.

Justice Elubu emphasized that a positive working environment is shaped by strong interpersonal relationships, observing that social engagements, such as the end-of-year celebration, help to break down barriers that cannot easily be addressed within the formal courtroom setting. He thanked the organizing team and commended all staff for their dedication and contribution to the Division's work.

He further observed that the Anti-Corruption Division was already well-run when he took office and expressed his intention to build on the strong foundation in place. He encouraged staff to continue working together, noting that progress is achieved through collective effort and shared responsibility.

Justice Elubu also welcomed the increase in the number of court sessions and the additional resources being availed to the Division, urging staff to remain committed and to give their best, as every role contributes to the overall performance of ACD. As the country heads into the election period, he advised staff to remain vigilant and to take care of themselves and their families.

Justice David Makumbi commended staff for their hard work and dedication, noting that their support is indispensable to the functioning of the Division. He observed that despite joining the Division mid-year together with the Head of Division, they had quickly settled in due to the cooperation and teamwork demonstrated by staff. He reaffirmed the leadership’s commitment to supporting staff in the execution of their duties.

Justice Makumbi also noted that as members of the ACD Finance Committee, efforts are made to ensure that available resources are utilized prudently and that staff needs are considered to sustain the Division’s operations.

The Ag. Assistant Registrar of the Division, HW Patrick Talisuna, thanked the leadership and staff for their support, describing himself as the "shock absorber" of the Division. He hailed the Head of Division for his leadership and mentorship, noting that despite the demanding nature of work at ACD, the Division continues to perform steadily.

The celebration concluded with an exchange of gifts, cake cutting and dinner, with proceedings moderated by Principal Magistrate Grade I HW Christopher Opit.
